Alka is a Croatian knight’s game. The three-day Alka Festival is held every year in the first week of August in Sinj (40km inland from Split), as the anniversary of the victory over the Ottomans in the 14th August 1715th. On this day 700 Croatian soldiers from Sinj managed to decline Turkish army attack which numbered 60,000 troops at the Battle of Sinj.

Alka is a knight competition where the rider on a horse in full gallop track has to pass the length of 160 m, (tolerated during up to 12 seconds) and tries to spear hit the center of a small circle of iron, which is called the ring, which is located at an altitude of around 3.2 m above the ground.
The goal of the game is to collect as many points in three attempts. During the race a single piece of equipment should not fall off.
The Alka takes place on the Sunday and is the crowning event of the festival. The Sunday Alka is a ticketed event, Friday's and Saturday's contests are free. After the contests, is time to enjoy in music, dancing and good local cuisine.
